Welcome

Monday Morning QB

It’s easy on Monday’s after watching the games as a fan to critique a QBs play or a coach's decision.  It’s always easy to say…He should have done this or that? He lost the game for his team.  Everyone has all the answers when there’s No Pressure…When they aren’t in the moment dealing with real-time and adversity.  Morning Morning QB was created as a way of developing leadership qualities in our QBs.  It’s a way of being proactive…not reactive

Grit

Grit = Passion + Perseverance

Passion is the love for the game & QB position.  “It’s not a position…It’s a lifestyle”

QBs will change their day-to-day decision to become ELITE

Perseverance is The ability to stick with it Fall 7, Rise 8 mentally.  All eyes on you - you are the leader & will make mistakes Train yourself to respond to adversity

How do we cultivate GRIT?

Angela Duckworth a psychologist and the world’s leading authority on Grit

She emphasizes the value of cultivating a growth mindset, where individuals view challenges & setbacks as opportunities for learning & growth.

Dr. Carol Dweck wrote a book “Mindset” Growth Mindset is the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed - it can change with your effort when kids read / learn about the brain & how it changes / grows in response to challenges.  They persevere when they fail because they don’t believe failure is a permanent condition

 RELATIONSHIPS

White Brick Wall

It is your DUTY (obligation) to cultivate relationships with EVERY MEMBER of the football program.

  • WIN THE LOCKER ROOM - Win over your TEAMMATES & Their FAMILIES

  • TEAM CHEMISTRY - You are around the team more than your coaches.  QBs Bring everyone TOGETHER

  • Invite ALL MEMBERS OF THE TEAM to social events and to hang out on the weekends

  • PRAISE YOUR Offensive line - Every Chance you get / Every Newspaper Article or Interview

Your brain is hardwired to be social. Equipped to seek out & respond to other people’s brains, bodies, & words.  Neuroscience calls this “COUPLING”

  • We match facial expressions.  From our brain to their brain, we pick up SIGNALS & EMOTIONS of others

  • Our brains have the ability to detect love or fear in less than one second.

  • In the book of Genesis, God concluded: “It is not good that man should be alone.”

Technology is great.  However we have lost the ability to connect face-to-face.  Our attention has become divided and robbing us of real meaningful relationships..

2 helpful tips:

Put your cell phone away & Focus INTENTLY on the person you are talking too

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”

oBSERVATION

Fighter pilot John Boyd developed the idea of the OODA loops. Observe, Orient, Decide, & Act

Where are you on the map? How accurate or reliable is that information that you are observing. Any Bias from that person?  Are they a Pessimist or an Optimist

  • The Pessimist (negative person) and they give you bad news it might not be all that bad

  • The Optimist (someone who is always positive) then they give you info and that situation may appear better than it seems.

Your own Bias & Ego - Do you have a predetermined assumption about a person, place or thing?

Apply OODA Loops to playing QB

15-18 seconds on the play clock (Process the Play)

  • OBSERVE

Look L to R / CB, SS, FS, CB, 3 LBS, DL

  • ORIENT

       Ball on the Hash

       Down & Distance

How much time on the game clock

      What’s the current score

  • DECIDE

       Ball Snapped - ( 3 to 4 Secs)

  • Act
